PROPER DIGESTION is the KEY to OVERALL HEALTH!
YOUR GUT, YOUR SECOND BRAIN!!
Digestive enzymes play a VERY important role in health! These are taken with our food to help break down our food for efficient absorption into the body.
Without digestive enzymes, the enterocytes would not be able to absorb essential nutrients bonded to large molecules or trapped in food matrices. When broken down, nutrients can be absorbed by the enterocytes, circulated in the bloodstream, and delivered to all cells of the body.
You have many bacteria in your body. In fact, you have more of them than you have cells. Most are good for you. The ones found in your gut not only help you digest foods, they work all over your body and can be good for your physical and mental health.
The gut plays a huge role in mediating the body’s overall immunity – your gut is one of the largest centers of immune regulation in the body.
- It acts as a first line defense against pathogens entering the body through the nose and mouth, such as bacteria, viruses, environmental pollutants, and food-borne microbes. It’s a barrier to prevent those pathogens from penetrating deeper into the body
- It houses a majority of the body’s immune cells, including activated T cells, plasma cells, mast cells, dendritic cells and macrophages. The collection of bacteria that live in the gut, called gut microbiota, have a complex relationship with the human body that allows it to regulate the immune system and fight off incoming pathogens.
